Trends in demand for this occupational group:
In the medium term of 3-5 years the demand for people with upper secondary qualifications in electrical engineering will exceed supply. However, it will be increasingly common to fill these jobs with tertiary qualification holders (qualification requirements will grow). Thanks to the expected outflow of manufacturing operations that are demanding in terms of the number of technicians, the demand for them will decrease further. By 2020 the number of secondary qualification holders in electrical engineering will have fallen.
Skill needs required:
A bachelor degree or secondary qualifications is usually required. Workers must understand technical documentation and see to compliance with technological procedures. Electricians have advanced cross-sectional technical knowledge that is balanced with skills related to work organization and planning, decision-making, work with information and management of subordinates. Specialized technical skills as well as language skills are only required in specific cases. Electricians deal with parts of technological processes, search for and partially analyse information in various fields. They will be affected by the same changes in the sector as technologists.
