Trends in demand for this occupational group:
There may be a surge in demand for salespeople in the upcoming years although, as with marketing specialists, the supply in the labour market will exceed demand. Still, there is likely to be a shortage of salespeople of high quality. The importance of salespeople in the eyes of Czech enterprises will grow. While at present Czech producers are rather passive in this respect, the role of an active approach to customers will be increasingly significant in the long term. Marketing and sales activities will be one of key preconditions
(along with product and process innovations and optimised logistics) for success. They will entail the monitoring of trends and forecasting demand for specific types of product, specific design and accompanying services.
Skill needs required:
People in sales seek to identify customers, negotiate the relevant terms with them and conclude contracts. They provide advice and information. They have excellent language, presentation and argumentation skills, an overview of the market and competition, and the capacity to understand customer preferences and transform them into assignments for development, technical and manufacturing functions. Moreover, they must have a good understanding of broad technical issues as well as specific qualities of the relevant products. An ideal sales representative should have technical qualifications along with a good sales knowledge and skills. He/she must have a well-balanced mix of technical, presentation and language skills.
