Passenger car production in CR up 11 pct in Q1-3 /25. 10. 2011/

Production of passenger cars in the Czech Republic rose by 11.4 percent to 895,728 units in January-September this year, the Automotive Industry Association (SAP) announced in a press release today.

The growth was pulled mainly by the Skoda Auto and Hyundai car makes. "The year-on-year increases in production and sales show that the condition of the Czech car industry is good. So there is a real chance that the total results for the year 2011 will exceed the record production from the past year," said SAP president Martin Jahn.

Skoda Auto raised output by 21.5 percent to 502,513 cars. Hyundai Motor Czech made 174,687 cars, which represents a similar growth. On the other hand, car maker TPCA Kolin saw production drop by over 11 percent to 218,525 units.

In total, domestic car makers produced 916,415 road vehicles of all categories in Q1-3 2011, 11.7 percent more than a year earlier. Car sales increased by 5 percent and exports were up nearly 11 percent.

Lorry production fell by ten to 924 vehicles. Avia Letnany raised output by 52 percent to 434 lorries, while Tatra Koprivnice registered a decline by a quarter to 490 lorries.

Production of buses jumped by a third to 2,421 buses. Irisbus raised output by 35.5 percent to 2,050 buses and SOR saw a 34 percent growth to 346 buses.

Jawa Tynec, the only large Czech motorcycle producer, raised output by over a half to 1,034 motorcycles and 951 of them were exported. Production of trailers jumped by 49 percent to 369 and production of semi-trailers was up 43 percent to 405.
