Trends in demand for this occupational group:
An optimised logistics system is a source of cost savings. Good decisions on the timing of deliveries, the size of stock and the type and frequency of transport can save primary logistics costs. Czech companies may use effective logistics to make up for their future disadvantage resulting from the growing difference between wages in the CR and those in Eastern Europe. Good infrastructure and proximity to EU markets and well thought-out logistics constitute key factors in favour of retaining manufacturing plants in the CR. Thanks to these factors the employment of logistics specialists in electrical engineering will grow, in spite of the fact that a substantial part of implementation of logistic solutions will be outsourced to specialised companies. The reason is that there will always have to be an expert in the manufacturing company who knows the product specificities, who is able to communicate with logistics providers (negotiate terms and solve operational problems), control the system and propose improvements.
Skill needs required:
The main task of a distribution logistics specialist is to propose a system of distribution channels (both for physical shipping of goods and electronic exchange of data). In view of the growing importance of outsourcing one of the principal functions of a distribution logistics specialist is to communicate with suppliers of logistic services and logisticians on the part of recipients (industry, trade).
Deliveries organised on a “tailor-made” logistical basis will not be an exception. These solutions will cover all aspects from packaging design, storage, handling and transport to precautions against damage, theft or industrial espionage. Distribution logistics specialists organise and hire individual providers of logistical services (shipping, storage and packaging of goods, insurance, customs clearance services and other administrative activities) along the entire supply chain. They are in contact with foreign shipment, distribution and warehousing companies in the target countries. They must be able to order and control logistical services and, in case of problems, resolve non-standard situations in foreign languages.
