Trends in demand for this occupational group:

In the following years there will be an increase in demand for workers with Master degrees (engineers) at the expense of those with upper secondary qualifications in electrical engineering (technicians). However, the jobs of engineers and technicians in various companies may overlap. There will be an increasing trend where engineers will be hired for jobs of technicians requiring secondary qualifications. The overall demand for technologists will slightly grow at first, and later it is likely to stagnate. The reason is that the importance of manufacturing and assembling in the overall structure of business operations will gradually decrease.

The labour market has for some time been exposed to negative trends including falling standards of the teaching of technical subjects (as early as basic school level). The quality of the teaching is insufficient and the level of students ’ knowledge in mathematics, logics, geometry, physics and chemistry often fails to establish solid foundations for further studies at higher levels and for employment in technical fields. Furthermore, there is insufficient interest in studying technical subjects and disciplines as compared to business and humanities. This is another reason why the supply of technicians fails to meet demand over the long term, and not much is changing as regards this mismatch due to growing demand on the part of companies .

Skill needs required:

Master degree will be increasingly important in the future. Employees with a master degree implement and manage technological processes in production, process technical documentation, and organize and plan complex sets of inter-linking activities. They normally have a high level of broad technical skills as well as a degree of specialized knowledge depending on their expertise. The can analyse and solve problems at a higher level of technical complexity. Production Engineers also handle major technological processes, put together technical information from various disciplines, analyse it and draw conclusions. They are the main coordinators of activities at technical level. They co-operate with staff in other departments (development, construction, IT) and pass on them technical information about products so that it can be presented to the customer. The also communicate with the sales department about information obtained from the market (customer demand).
