Trends in demand for this occupational group:
The employment of unskilled workers in electrical engineering will be influenced, above all, by progressing automation and phase-out of production. These jobs are more and more often filled via recruitment agencies – this makes it possible for electrical engineering companies to be more flexible in terms of cost management and in terms of adjusting the number of staff to the changing demand.
Due to the economic crisis there has been a major drop in demand for auxiliary production jobs. This trend will continue in the following years. The reason is a gradual transformation of electrical engineering into the production of sophisticated products (manufacturing projects/made-to-order) with a higher proportion of in-house development and individual solutions for specific customers. There will be a decreasing room for the employment of unskilled workers. Moreover, the number of people willing to work at production lines will decrease significantly, and these jobs will be increasingly filled by foreigners – particularly in the short term.
Skill needs required:
Workers who fall in this occupational group often come from other industries – textile, foodstuffs and mechanical engineering. They can receive on-the-job training for specific tasks. The key requirements therefore include manual dexterity, the capacity to understand the given task, accuracy, speed and the capacity to solve simple problems. Technical knowledge, PC skills and language skills are only exceptionally required. The importance of manual dexterity will decrease, but the requirements related to quality and capacity to solve simple problems will continue to be important. The main trend in production will consist in ensuring effectiveness in implementation of all tasks and in saving operating costs. Unskilled workers will have to be aware of the context of their work – i.e. the preceding and the ensuing stages of the manufacturing process, and carry out their tasks in the interest of a whole (i.e. manufacturing department, the entire business, the entire economy).
